ABOUT

Song of Myself – A New Curation for Poetry Jukebox

Stop this day and night with me and you shall possess the origin of all poems … from Song of Myself – Walt Whitman

An international edition of poems by D/Deaf & Disabled poets curated by poets Alice McCullagh & Maria McManus. The poets take on the contemporary world. Their poems embrace a multitude of themes which in many instances comment specifically on their lived-experience of disability.

This Poetry Jukebox was supplied through the Department for Communities & Belfast City Council, Access & Inclusion Grant. Poetry Jukebox is supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland through National Lottery Funds. Song of Myself  was specially commissioned for Belfast International Arts Festival 2019, with the support of University of Atypical.

@poetryjukebox we are #ChangingTheMessage!  We want to share beautiful, profound and life-affirming words, and change the words on our streets, opening hearts and minds, putting poetry to work where it belongs: everywhere, for everyone. Poetry Jukebox was created by Ondřej Kobza & Michaela Hečková as part of the Czech cultural project, Piána na ulici, (Pianos on the Streets). Other Poetry Jukeboxes have been installed in New York, Prague, Kiev, Warsaw, Berlin, Brussels and Lodz.  Thanks for listening!
